Beijing 2008

The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games was held in Beijing, China from 6 to 17 September 2008 with the Equestrian events held in Hong Kong and Sailing events in Qingdao.

Singapore was represented by a 25-member contingent led by Chef-de-Mission Mr. Frankie Thanapal Sinniah. The contingent includes 6 athletes, 16 officials and 3 secretariat personnel. Singapore was represented in the following sports: Athletics, Equestrian, Sailing and Swimming.

Ms Theresa Goh (Swimming) was the flag bearer at the Games’ Opening Ceremony.

Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games marked the first time Singapore won a Paralympic medal of any kind. Swimmer Ms Yip Pin Xiu won a gold and a silver medals for Singapore in Women’s 50m Backstroke S3 and Women’s 50m Freestyle S3 respectively. Equestrienne Ms Laurentia Tan won two bronze medals in Individual Championship Test Grade 1A and Individual Freestyle Test Grade 1A.
