Incheon 2014

The 2014 Asian Para Games, also known as the second Asian Para Games, was held in Incheon, South Korea from 18 to 24 October 2014.

53 athletes, twice the number of athletes as compared to the previous edition, were selected with 28 officials and 10 secretariats accompanying the athletes to Incheon. The Singapore Contingent was led by Chef-de-Mission Mr. Justinian Chua and the flag bearer was Mr Jovin Tan (Sailing). Singapore competed in 11 sports namely Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Cycling, Football 7-a-side, Lawn Bowls, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tenpin Bowling.

Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games marked the first time Singapore won an Asian Para Games gold medal. Although more than half of the athletes were debutants, they improved on Team Singapore’s performance at the last game and brought home 6 medals.

Our sailors, Mr. Jovin Tan and Ms Yap Qian Yin, clinched Singapore’s maiden gold medal at the 2nd Asian Para Games. They won seven out of nine races and were thus awarded the Gold medal for the Hansa 303 double-handed event.

Swimmer Ms Theresa Goh had also improved on her previous performance at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games by winning an extra silver medal. She won Singapore’s first silver medal in S5 Women’s 50m freestyle and two bronze medals in S5 Women’s 100m freestyle and SB4 Women’s 100m Breaststroke.

Tenpin Bowling duo, Mr. Anuar Bin Saaid and Mr. Kalvin Tay Leong Hock, secured a bronze for Men’s Doubles (TPB8+TPB8) while Tenpin bowling trio, Mr. Anuar Bin Saaid, Robert Ong and Mohamed Ismaild Bin Hussain clinched a bronze in Men’s Team (TPB8+TPB2/3+TPB2/3).
