6th ASEAN Para Games Update: Singapore strikes 2 golds on Opening Day of Competitions!!!!

Singapore has struck 2 Golds from Swimming and Ten Pin Bowling. Theresa Goh powered home to clinch the Gold medal in the 50m Breaststroke for S5 class in swimming this morning. Later in the day, our bowler, Mohd Ismail clinced another Gold in the singles event for class TPB3.


There were also 2 silvers that was won in the swimming pool today, with Benson Tan coming in 2nd in the 50m Freestyle for S14 Class, and Chew Zi Ling who also came in 2nd for the same event and class.


Kegler Thomas Yong clinched the bronze in the TPB1 event for Bowling and our wheelchair racer, Md Firdaus Nordin also claimed the same coloured medal for his 100m event for T54 class.


Over at the Sritex Arena, our national para-shuttlers were involved in the BMSTU4 men’s singles and the BMSTU4 men’s doubles group B.


Current games BMSTU 4 men’s singles defending champion Tay Wei Ming secured his first win of the competiton defeating Vietnam’s Pham Hong Tuan, 21-10, 21-16.


Fellow shuttlers Muhammad Ashik Ishak and Kelvin Pung were also involved in the singles competition. It was not an easy outing for Ashik as he was unable to progress to the next round after suffering two consecutive defeats in his Group A matches. He went down 11-21, 21-23 and 4-21, 4-21 to Mohamad Hamizan from Malaysia and Tran Minh Nhuan from Vietnam’s respectively.


Kelvin also faced defeat in his first group B match going down 14-21 and 13-21 to Indonesia’s Koriyosua.


Our local pair managed to win their first group match, defeating Malaysian pair Mohamad Hamizan and Issa Mohd. Noor 21-23, 21-17 and 21-14.


Table Tennis paddler Eugene Soh bowed out in the Class-4 open men’s singles quarter-final stages after going down to Thai first seed Wichaiwatana 2-11, 2-11, 5-11. He had managed to progress to the next round after defeating Malaysia’s Mohd Razak Che Awang 11-8, 10-12, 14-12, 2-11, 11-8.


Dr William Tan’s Class-4 open men’s singles journey ended in the first round after his 11-2, 11-9, 11-9 loss to Thailand’s Jedsada Yodyangeang.


The duo got together in their Class-4 men’s doubles, but their journey was also short-lived after they went down 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 to Indonesia’s Adios Astan and Herman Sefrianto in the quarter-final stages.

Overall Team Singapore ended today with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
