The Rio 2016 Summer Paralympic Games will be held from 7th to 18th September. Para athletes from around the world will compete in 23 sports to be offered at the Games.

The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) is pleased to announce that Singapore’s para athletes have qualified for 4 sports, namely, Boccia, Equestrian, Sailing and Swimming. Archery and Athletics athletes are still in the process of qualifying for the Games. We look forward to confirmation of their participation at the Games in due course.

The SNPC is pleased to confirm that the following athletes have been selected and confirmed for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games:

Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang, SNPC Chairman, said, “We are very proud of Singapore’s para athletes who have qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Our athletes are training hard and looking forward to flying the Singapore flag high at the Games. We sincerely hope that all of Singapore will support and cheer our athletes on during the Games as they seek to achieve sporting excellence and bring honour to the nation”. Final athletes’ selection for Sailing will be announced later.

Said Mr Ho Cheng Kwee, Chef-de-Mission of the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games Singapore team, “The Paralympic Games is the highest level of international competition for para athletes around the world. Singapore’s para athletes, competing against the best in the world, have done Singapore proud by winning medals at the previous two Paralympic Games in Beijing and London. The team selected to represent Singapore at the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games have worked extremely hard, made tremendous sacrifices and met every mental and physical challenge, to reach a level where they are confident of competing against their fellow para athletes on the world stage. I am proud to lead such a team. I hope they have the support of all Singaporeans as they fly the Singapore flag high.”

Current world record holder and gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, swimmer Ms Yip Pin Xiu, will be the flag bearer for Team Singapore at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.  “To be chosen to carry my nation’s flag is a great honour and I’m grateful for the support we have been given thus far.  With less than three months to go, we are all excited and gearing to do our very best at RIO 2016. We hope to see everyone rally behind Team Singapore as we compete and strive to excellence” said Ms Yip Pin Xiu

For Boccia athlete Ms Nurulasyiqah Binte Mohammad Taha, this will be the 2nd time she’s competing at the Paralympic Games. “I’m looking forward to competing at the Rio Paralympic Games alongside my Boccia partner, Sze Ning, who will be making her Paralympic debut in Rio. We are working hard, together with our support team, to put up our best performance at the Games.”
