The first ever Asian Youth Para Games was held in September of 2009, in Tokyo, Japan.
A contingent of 20 people represented Team Singapore in the Asian Youth Para Games.
Eight of these are athletes who competed in three sports – athletics, boccia and swimming.
Team Singapore won a total of four medals – two gold, a silver and a bronze each – at the end of the 2009 Asian Youth Para Games in Tokyo.
Paralympic gold medallist Yip Pin Xiu was unable to break the world record, finishing the 50m freestyle of the S3 category with a timing of 58.62 seconds.
Yip had earlier set a new world record en-route to her gold medal in the 50m backstroke of the S3 category with a timing of 56.62 seconds.
Track and field athletes Choo Leng Hin and Fitri Bin Amran clocked personal best times.
Choo Leng Hin brought home 1 Gold and 1 Bronze, whilst swimmer, Benson Tan won a silver as well to top of the medal haul for Singapore.
